Mr Bingo

We met Mr Bingo, who i can't believe I'd never heard of but he was so funny and i love his work!! I found him really inspiring but also made me feel worried about what I'm going to do after i leave uni. I really like his style of work with the black pen and realistic drawings.

Ralph Steadman

We had the pleasure of speaking to Ralph Steadman. Personall his work isn't my kind of thing but i can still appreciate his it. He was so funny and inspiring. something he kept saying was 'you don't make mistakes'.

Study Task 5

What are your goals?
During my degree: I want to work on my tone of voice. At the moment I don't feel like I have my own 'style', though this might be because I'm trying out different ways of working with each project. I think that my lose sketchy line work is what mostly feels like 'me' and my kind of work but I want to learn how to take my drawings and make it in to a piece of illustration. I also want to work on my composition. We've learnt about composition and line of sight during visual language and it's given me a lot more to consider when making a piece. I've learnt that thumb-nailing and planning is important and this year has already made me more organised. As well as this I want to take more time to produce my own work. I also illustrate for a cake company and I've find it hard juggling all my work.

Long term: By the end of my degree I'd like a clear idea of what area of illustration I want to go in to and have my own tone of voice. I'm worried bout what'll happen after university so by like I'd like some sort of plan. I'd liked to of produced a good portfolio of work that I'm proud of. Go for more jobs to get my name out. I need to grow in confidence in order to get my name known and get work.

What are your expectations?
I really don't know what to expect. I'm worried that I wont have a plan or what it takes to make it as an illustrator. However that is what I'd like; to be a working illustrator and have a large bod of work that I'm proud of. I'd at least like to be in a creative job, I'm going to work really hard.

How will you achieve them?
I'm going to work really hard during my course and after my degree. I don't want to waste this opportunity and these 3 years by not working as hard as I can. I'm going to take everything I learn and put it in to my career and future. As well as this, I'm just going to be nice to people.

How will you judge your successes?
I will judge my successes first by how happy I feel about by work and how I'm doing. Once, my work is hopefully known then I will just my successes about the mount of work and money I get.

What will you do when it goes wrong?
I will recognise where I have gone wrong and the mistakes I have made, reflect on it and then learn from it.

Lapin

I love the loose line work and yet there's a lot of detail. He's played with scale and view point and I like the used of watercolour. I like using pen and line work but I need to think about how I take i further. I've started editing in photoshop but I need to look at incorporating other media. I also like the different paper he works on. His work is like a travel journal.
