Today I attended the Crispin Orthotics competition briefing. I think this be a perfect quick brief as it's patterned based illustration, which I've become really interested in during the past year. I've also found that I've started producing patterns quite quickly which is important as there isn't long to get the work completed.
Orthotics is a specialist field of medicine which focuses on the design, production and use of orthoses. Orthoses are devices which are applied externally to any part of the body in order to prevent or correct deformity and promote or improve function of the affected area.
Sadly they said they only want 2 submissions. I wanted to send some of the patterns I've already made as well as making some new ones. The patterns need to be appropriate for adults as most of their patterns are too childish. They suggested that we think about what design we would want if we were to need one, as the audience are a similar age to us. However, to be honest I'd actually just want something really plain and simple. I think adults are quite a difficult audience to target as they don't want anything too busy and patterned.
Prizes:
1st place - £150
2nd place - £100
3rd place - £50
Although there will be a winner and runners up, they have stated that it won't stop them being interested in others work and still may choose to commission others.
